Mahjong , one of the first English-language books to center Asian diaspora rules, teaches readers how to play the game and showcases mahjong culture, both past and present, through essays and vignettes on the history of the game, design elements (dating your inherited or thrifted sets), and more. For many third-culture kids in the Asian diaspora, the sight and sound of clacking mahjong tiles conjures deep-seated memories. Some learned to play alongside elders, while others watched from afar.
