This vintage ring centers on a remarkably detailed micromosaic depiction of the Roman Colosseum , framed in silver and 14KT yellow gold. Against a deep black ground, the monument rises from a landscape of greens and warm earth tones, its architecture rendered on an extraordinarily small scale. What appears at first to be a miniature painting is actually constructed from tiny pieces of colored glass, called tesserae , carefully arranged to create the image.
