Dating to circa 1840, this Italian micromosaic brooch depicts St. Peter's Square in Rome, with St. Peter's Basilica rising in the background. A broad black border surrounds the remarkably detailed architectural scene, set within a 15KT gold mount accented with twisted-rope detail. The image reveals how extraordinary the technique is.
