Broadway and Pike/Pine are the Hill's two spines, the old auto-row storefronts between Cal Anderson Park and the light rail long since gone over to bars, bookshops, and record bins. Climb toward Volunteer Park and it turns leafy, with the water tower, the conservatory, and St. Mark's on the ridge, but the pull is always back down the slope to Pike.
