The Strapcap is where KAVU started. In 1991, Barry Barr was captaining a commercial salmon fishing boat off the wet, windy coast of Alaska when a gust ripped his hat off and sent it overboard. He figured there had to be a better way to keep a cap on your head in rough weather, so he came up with one. That idea became the Strapcap: a low-profile four-panel hat anchored by burly patterned nylon webbing, a D-ring adjustment, reinforced bar tacks, and a tough polyurethane bill. It was built for work
