On a 30" Cord Bosun's Whistles produce a piercing call that cuts through the wind and can be heard all over a ship. By alterning how the hand and tongue are held different pitches can be produced. These will mean different commands. The Bosun's Whistle dates back to the Crusades, 1248 AD.
