In the year 2046, the line between human and machine has blurred on the colonized frontier of Mars. Naomi Armitage and Ross Sylibus have spent years in hiding, raising their daughter under assumed identities to escape a past of government conspiracies and anti-android violence. But when a brutal "robot riot" erupts at an Earth-based antimatter plant, Armitage suspects a deeper cover-up involving the illegal manufacturing of "Thirds"—androids capable of human reproduction.
